Thank you for your support and encouragement over the summer. I've honestly grown so much as an artist and learned a lot about the business side of music over the past few months. Right after the Spring Semester commenced, we kicked off summer with a bang as my girlfriend and I flew out to Los Angeles for Team Backpack's "Mission Underground" (MULA) event. After MULA, I went right into another performance gig for the Filipino Fiesta at Kapiolani Park, and it was a great "homecoming" type of experience. With the extra funds from my IndieGoGo crowdsource campaign, I started this website and you have shown so much love especially on the "Friday Features." It's great to show yall my other Marketing and Journalism interests.
Throughout the rest of the summer I worked on this website, with a focus on my blog; along with more performances at local open mics and landing some interviews on the KTUH and KNDI radio stations here in Honolulu, as well as some online stations such as Connect Gang Radio and Detroit Unplugged. It was great to video blog (vlog) all these things for you to see. Towards the latter half of summer, I spent a lot of time "decompressing" with my family and practiced my freestyles a lot (of course I still need more work with that). I'm not trynna front like I "made it" but I truly am grateful for every "fan" and supporter I have even though my movement is still fairly small.
One major weakness that I am well-aware of is the actual, technical quality of my tracks. Since I started in 2010, I've only been using basic hardware and GarageBand. While the sound isn't too bad, I know that it is time to step my game up. I can honestly say that my lyrical skills, delivery, and overall confidence on the mic have grown exponentially since I started rapping, and so has my business mindset. With that said, now that I'm back in school and working a lot, I will be setting aside a budget to put together studio-quality tracks and possibly a professional full-length album in the near future.
As aforementioned, I am a full-time student, studying Marketing at Hawaii Pacific University (HPU). I work two part-time jobs and serve part-time in the National Guard. My main focus right now is to do well in school, especially since this is my last full school year. I will still probably have to take one more semester after that but this is really the "homestretch" regarding my college education. My time for music is going to be altered around school but I plan on using this time to plan my first full studio project and to continue building my blog's buzz.
Mahalo (thank you) and Aloha (see you soon),
