Take a look at Jim Hurdle’s music and you’ll find nothing but high quality hip hop and differently inspired shit. His biggest track and music video, “Makiki,” pays homage to his transition into manhood while living and working in the island city. The video has more than 8000 views on Youtube as well as Soundcloud. His other projects like “Infinity” and “Ok You Right” showcases his grimy, yet calm and cool style, as well as features from other dope talent.
Born on Oahu, this producer and emcee moved to Texas with his family as a young kid, and then moved back to Oahu in his early 20s. “I was raised in El Paso, TX, where I originally got into hip hop music/culture. I started out as a b-boy, then my best friend Andreas got into writing lyrics and rapping, so I basically learned from him,” said Jim.
After moving back to Hawaii to be closer to his family, Jim initially started to make music to make more friends. Once he realized that he was pretty good at it and found that he had a true passion for music, he decided to take music more seriously. In the decade that he’s spent in Hawaii’s music scene, Jim expressed high hopes and potential for local talent and overall music community. “I think our scene is forever changing in a great way. Artists are experimenting & building more. They are more conscious of trying to take the next step to put our scene in a bigger light,” said Jim.
At 33 years old, Jim Hurdle is a respected up and coming artist and has an extensive network. He has opened for major artists like Nas, Iamsu, Childish Gambino, G-Eazy and most recently opened for Astronautalis alongside CNRBoy at The Republik. “I'm someone that enjoys being on stage & performing. I’m always comfortable & confident. I've been doing it so long so it just became a regular thing that I don't really get the ‘jitters’. If anything I'm amped up to rock a set & display my capabilities as an artist, producer, & performer,” said Jim.
