Aloha & welcome back OTDHipHop fam! As always, thank you so much for your support for our platform and all the artists. Be sure to check us out on all social media as well as our playlists on Soundcloud and Spotify.
This week I got another special feature for our #TrackTuesday segment, my bro and talented artist - DannnyRose! He is a rapper/emcee from Garden Grove, CA.
DannnyRose released his newest project, the 2:22 tape, a few months ago. I’ve listened to it from top to bottom multiple times and I dig the whole thing. Today I’ll be reviewing my favorite song off 2:22, Mileage! After following DannnyRose for over a year, this man continuously drops good music, quality visuals, and all around dope branding. I like Mileage the best from 2:22 because it’s just straight up vibey and relatable. The beat has an R&B trap vibe, shouts out JustinKase on production! I like how Dannny stays “in the pocket” of a blended singing/rapping track. It’s a love song nonetheless, with a short skit of a couple arguing, which sets the tone for the track and then it’s smooth AF the whole time. Overall, I dig Dannny’s voice and style on this track. That type of sound actually stays pretty consistent throughout the rest of 2:22 but as I’ve said, Mileage is my personal favorite from the project. Go ahead and support Garden Grove’s finest, DannnyRose!
Aloha & welcome back OTDHipHop fam!
Believe it or not, the inquiries from artists to feature their content have been overwhelming! Shouts out everybody spreading the word about our platform, can you believe we’re 3 years old?! I still remember when I started OTDHipHop in college as a way to showcase some of my artist friends. Now artists are contacting ME for my opinion on their music. We’ve covered artists from Hawaii, around the U.S., Canada, Guam, & more! We also have a Spotify playlists, video interviews, and active social media accounts. Again, THANK YOU!
With that being said, it is my pleasure to introduce a very special artist for this week’s Track Tuesday (song review segment) - Ché (fka Detroit Che). Today I’ll be reviewing her latest single, “LEAF,” from her CHÉNGES EP.
I’ve listened to LEAF and watched the visual multiple times, and I’m a fan of both. Sonically, I like how the instruments build together to make the track; starting with the piano and the caribbean style drumming pattern. It pulls me in as a listener and makes me more receptive to listen when Ché’s verse comes on. I dig her voice on the track, moving in between singing and rapping smoothly; all while following a positive message of “if I change myself I change someone else.” The overall vibe of the song is also positive and real with a spacey, psychedelic undertone.
Visually, I think the song fits the music video very well. Directed by Ché herself, you can feel her genuinity and uniqueness. From the bright yellow to jackets, to the lake, to her locs, and the dancer, speaking to her culture in a subtle way. The drone shots are also hella sick!
Aloha OTDHipHop fam! As always, we’re back with consistent hip hop ON THE DAILY.
I got a special Hawaii spotlight for yall today - Hilo boys Jay Kuro and Killa B-rex.
You might remember them from last year’s Creative Hustle Tour segment.
Today I’ll be reviewing YouknowKuro’s newest track “Pesos.”
First off the beat is hella vibey, a trap and R&B sound with a cool piano melody.
Props on production! I really dig YouKnowKuro’s voice and flow on this; his raps sound more confident and smooth as we’ve followed his music development. The hook is also catchy, something I can vibe to on some solo shit or with friends. Lyrically, he illustrates his daily life with his own personal and Hawaiian finesse. I like that he mentions the homestead, and other Hawaii/Big Island lifestyle mentions like that. The song is pretty positive too, talking about staying focused, working hard, and forgetting the haters. Shouts out Killa B-rex and Young Nav for their features on this track too!
Make sure yall take a listen and support YouKnowKuro and the rest of his FTH crew!
