Aloha OTDHipHop fam! Apologies for the brief break from content the past 2 weeks. I went on a trip to Portland and Seattle with my family and celebrated my birthday! Anyways, we back again with another #TrackTuesday! Kicking off the new month, we got the homie Astreaux Guillotine and his new song “Turbulence” featuring Myalz Stunna. Check it out below:
First off let me just say that Astreaux Guillotine has been on his grind for a MINUTE, but has been releasing new music like crazy this year. His songs are available on all streaming outlets, and you can check out his latest OTDHipHop EP review here. Yall better stop sleeping! Ever since Astreaux sent me “Turbulence,” about a week ago, I’ve probably played this track a hundred times already. Haha. I honestly think this is my new favorite of his.
I love Astreaux’s nonchalant and even comedic attitude and confidence in his music. I’ve critiqued his deeper songs too, like “Lotus Interlude.” After listening/reviewing some his other projects, I’ve been curious as a listener to hear more about his reflections on spending time in prison and in the streets. “Turbulence” is EXACTLY that. I love its raw and gritty honesty, along with the beat and production. It has an anthem vibe to it that pulls me in as a listener and fan. I think new listeners can appreciate it as well. What really stuck out to me on this track are the short quotes/skits in between, that speak on the real street life in Hawaii. I’ve never really considered Astreaux’s music as specifically “gangster rap” but “Turbulence” is a great fit for that sub-genre, especially considering the artist’s background. Overall, I’m a fan of “Turbulence” and once again, I can’t wait to see Astreaux Guillotine and Mylaz Stunna perform this live soon!
Yo OTDHipHop fam! Welcome back to another week of DOPE content here in our blog, and don’t forget to follow us on ALL of our social media. This week’s #TrackTuesday features an artist we’ve never had officially on OTDHipHop before, and that is hip hop artist/emcee, Pak!
I ran into him at a studio rehearsal this past Friday night and we chopped it up about his new project and fundraising campaign. Check out my review of his new song “Wanna,” from his newly released project,I Will Not Be Chain3d.
Pak has a really unique sound and demeanor as an emcee. Off rip, most might say he’s a “nerd” rapper but if you watch him closely at live shows and get to see his musical and visual content; he’s a lot more than that! “Wanna” is a good introduction to his persona and vibe. This is probably the most explicit from I Will Not Be Chain3d, but nonetheless I think it’s dope. The beat is produced by Syndrome and is a banger in itself, but I really like the sound effects on Pak’s flow and voice. It has a trap and EDM vibe that keeps me intrigued as a listener. Lyrically, Pak talks about the “come up” and all the things he desires; but there’s a maturity in his flow that mentions things like family, relationships, and mental and emotional stability. I’d love to hear this live!
Good morning OTDHipHop fam! We got another installment of our #TrackTuesday segment. Today we’re reviewing a new song called “Feelin Myself,” by Bay Area-based female rapper Turfergirl aka TG9 Milli.
“Feelin Myself” is the first single to be released off of TG9 Milli’s upcoming EP, A Dose of Me. The whole project was produced, written, & performed by the artist herself. As far as production, “Feelin Myself” definitely has that classic hyphy Bay Area sound. TG9’s attitude and flow is confident and filled with heavy barz. I also like how the beat switches up time to time throughout the track. My main critique is that I think her vocals could’ve been changed up a bit more throughout the track; the hook is catchy and easy to recite but it can get difficult to hear again and again. Her voice seems to be naturally more high-pitched kind of like how Too Short sounds on a track; personally I think she would sound cooler in a more, calm, chill tone with the same heavy hitting barz. However, the overall vibe is that cocky Bay Area finesse and I dig that. I’m excited to check out TG9 Milli’s new EP when it drops! Make sure to stay tuned for her upcoming Instagram livestream interview!
