It never ceases to amaze me that there are artists literally all around the world who are creating music, performing, singing, dancing, drawing, whatever their type of “art” might be. When it comes to Hip Hop/Rap music, we can bicker all day and night about what “real hip hop” is. But at the end of the day, I believe music is all about freedom and fun, whatever your vices may be. With that said, I had a great time interviewing an artist by the name of Hello Shello, for this week’s Track Tuesday segment, featuring one his newest songs “Long Night.”
In my opinion, “Long Night” is a party-vibed track ready for radio. Produced by the Production Kingz, it is one of the first singles off Hello Shello’s newly released album, 600 Degreez. The track has a smooth beat, graced with Nique The Geek’s vocals on the catchy hook, and of course Hello Shello’s barzzzz! Shello expressed that he has worked with the Production Kingz since they went to high school together, and that the song came together pretty naturally. “I can’t lie, it was a fun ass record to write and I record. But you can expect a lot more than ‘Long Night’s’ flow on 600 Degreez” said Shello.
Hello Shello is a music artist and from Columbia, South Carolina. Growing up, Hip Hop/Rap was the dominant music played and the musical genre that he felt most connected to. Artists like Ludacris, Nelly, and 50 Cent were some of the popular artists during his teenage years, and collectively their music influenced Shello to start writing and recording his own raps.
It’s crazy that Shello and I actually used to work at FootAction together just a couple years back. We had an idea that each of us did music on the side but not as seriously as we are now. It is truly motivating to meet young men like Shello who can bring the creative and business aspects of music together. Aside from music itself, Shello does a little bit of A&R (artists and repertoire) work, in which he is responsible for finding specific beats and song styles that work well for artists. Shello has big goals for himself including going platinum and winning a grammy, but he also stated that “overall, I just want to open up opportunities for everybody I fuck with.”
