Aloha & Happy New Year OTDHipHop fam!! First off, sorry for not posting for a while but let’s not dwell on the negative. LOL! Needless to say, we’re back in full-force for all your underground hip hop content! With that said, today I’ll be reviewing “Exuberance” (Prod. Ghost McGrady) by fellow Hawaii artist & creative mind - Cosmic K (aka Kody D).
Check out my track review below:
First off, the beat is hella trippy. Credits to Ghost McGrady on production! It starts off with smooth bass and a chill tempo, elevates through lots of different instruments and synthesizers working together, and comes back down. Kody’s lyrics seem to be more of a diary entry and expository narrative, and sounds like a poetic rant with social commentary from an honest artist. His pen game is clever AF! In my opinion, Cosmic K reminds me of a Hawaiian local version of Asher Roth, and I mean that with props! Lol. I also dig the stoney and enlightened vibes.
Cosmic K (aka Kody D) is a 22-year old aspiring music artist/emcee and overall creative mind. Having got into hip hop/rap at 12 years old, he has and continues to be on his own cosmic journey of sorts as an artist. His music is honest and flows conscious messaging without being so preachy. Although he has his own voice, I’d say that his tone and vibe is similar to the likes of Logic, Blackbear, and Dizzy Wright. Kody is also a part of 2 different groups - The Visually Gifted and Supernatural. “I believe in divine manifestation and that I was destined to make music and enlighten the youth with the life lessons I’ve learned and through everything I’ve been through. I want my music my to bring hope and courage to anyone who listens to it,” says Kody.
Like what you hear?
Hear more of Cosmic K’s music on his Soundcloud, along with Supernatural’s new mixtape - Activation.
He also just released another collaboration track with Kuro, another Big Island-based artist.

My life is a juggling act, in all honesty. Lol. Forgive me for the sporadic content but regardless, you can trust that I’m creating content for yall every day whether it’s music or blogs or videos, etc. But I digress…
This week I had the pleasure to chop it up with Rappa Nui, an up and coming music artist & entertainer from the Big Island. Most recently, he’s earned one of the top spots on “Hawaii’s Next Radio Star” via Power 104.3.
I figured this would be a good time to hit em up for a blog feature and I’ve always been interested in his work; we talked about the radio competition, his background, and latest single “Let My Guard Down."
Kenui Hamada, “Rappa Nui” is a 27-year old from the Big Island of Hawaii. Initially starting with freestyles in high school, he has been present in Hawaii’s local music scene since his early 20s. He mentioned that he used to look up to bigger local artists and entertainers like Osna and Krystilez. “Growing in the Big Island, everything I do makes a statement. So I’m hella proud looking back ‘cause today I work with my role models.” Osna actually directed, shot, and edited Rappa Nui’s latest single/video “Let My Guard Down” (feat. Ryan Hiraoka). Big props to everyone on the project!
“Basically I like making music that everyone can listen to and vibe to. I rap about a lot of different things but this track was more so a ‘feel good’ track, and we got to shoot it back in my hometown,” said Rappa Nui.
Today, Rappa Nui is focused on what he calls “power moves.” He is also a proud father of his daughter Miliana, and expressed how having her in his life makes him want to take his career to the next level even more.
He stated, “I don’t want to waste my time anymore. Being a dad just makes me want to strategize everything better so I can reach my goals faster.”
