Aloha #OTDHipHop fans!
Thanks for supporting this platform. Every week, I feature new projects, music videos, songs, and various content submitted by underground artists from around the world. This week, I had the pleasure to catch up with my new friend and fellow artist, DannnyRose. I met Danny during the Creative Hustle Tour, which was held in January 2017, presented by Faithful to Hawaii & Visual Feelingz ENT. Danny and I talked about what he’s been up to since the intra-island tour, and how he’s doing back home in southern California.
DannnyRose is a 21 year old hip hop artist/rapper from Garden Grove, CA. After high school, Danny and some of his friends banded together to create a group called OKAY CREW. However, overtime, members began disbanding and going separate ways. Since then, DannnyRose decided to focus on his music career as a solo artist. In 2015, he released his underground debut EP called West St. Dreams. He has spent the past year or so promoting West St. Dreams via word of mouth, social media, and largely at live shows. “Don’t Worry” (Prod. by Dennis Tha Producer) is the most popular track off the project, sitting at 10,000+ plays and counting. His fans have described his flow as very similar to J. Cole’s and for good reason. His songs have a chill, real- life storytelling vibe with west coast finesse.
Growing up in southern California provided DannnyRose with a unique experience, of which highly influenced his music regarding beat/production style, flow, lyrical content, and his overall brand. “I grew up in a Mexican household. From a young age, music was all around me from hip hop/rap, R&B, to hispanic genres, etc. I also have a few family members who have reached certain levels of success with their own music/entertainment grinds. I guess you can say it’s in my blood,” said Dannny.
DannnyRose was a well-received artist on the Creative Hustle Tour, having performed at venues on the Big Island, Maui, and Oahu. He stated that the whole experience was like a “movie,” but still lots of work regarding preparing for shows and working with different venues, djs, and promoters. Since the tour’s completion, Dannny released 2 new singles via Soundcloud - “In The Motion” and “On My Own” (Prod. by Rose). He has also performed in his local area a few times.
Like many independent, DIY artists, Dannny works a “day job” but also works on music just like it’s his full time job. Overtime, he has been able to build his own makeshift home studio set-up, and is able to record his own vocals. Recently, he has allowed other local artists in his area record at his home studio, and is continues to teach himself how to mix/master tracks on his own. Currently, Dannny and I are working on a collaborative track called “Post To Be” (Prod. by Syndrome). The track is in the mixing/mastering phases, and is slated to be released via both of our Soundcloud & Youtube channels in early April 2017.
Greetings & Salutations #OTDHipHop fans! We’re back again with yet another installment of the CREATIVE HUSTLE TOUR TAKEOVER. Today, I had the pleasure to meet DannnyRose, an up and coming artist from Garden Grove, CA. We talked about his experience in making music thus far, and some of his plans and anticipation for the upcoming intra-island tour of Hawaii.
DannnyRose is a 21-year-old artist representing the city of Garden Grove in southern California. He got his start in music as part of a group with some friends in high school. However, things like immaturity and jealousy got in the way, so in 2015 Dannny broke ties and chose to focus on himself as a solo artist.
In the span of about a year, Dannny has built the beginnings of a solid foundation in his craft. He records his vocals in his own home studio set-up and outsources his tracks for mixing/mastering to professional producers and sound engineers. Like many young artists, he is simply focused on his grind and getting his music out there any way he can - passing out CDs, going to local shows, networking, etc. He has also performed a number of times at small venues in his area, and is currently working to further establish himself as a brand.
DannnyRose released his first solo EP, West St. Dreams, in 2015 and has been promoting it ever since. “Don’t Worry” (Prod. by Dennis Tha Producer) is the most popular track off the project, sitting at 8000+ plays and counting. DannnyRose fans have described his flow as very similar to J. Cole’s and for good reason. His songs have a chill, storytelling vibe but with that added west coast finesse.
Regarding the upcoming Creative Hustle Tour, Dannny expressed that he is basically eager to perform and get his music out there. He started following fellow rapper and tour manager KillaB-Rex (Brayden Cruz-Silva) on Soundcloud and soon after, the two connected into discussing booking. “I heard about the Creative Hustle Tour from my boy Brayden, I actually reached out to him. I was so eager to go a show down in Hawaii. I told him I was willing to sleep on a couch,” said Dannny. When asked what people can expect from his performance, Danny stated, “You can expect a great time, I’m gonna give yall the best performance day in and day out. REAL SHIT. I don’t care if there’s 6 people of 600 people I’m gonna go hard every minute.”
In a time where it seems like everyone wants to be a rapper. There are countless tools, programs, and of course the internet that can lead artists to seemingly instantaneous stardom. But it’s humble artists like DannnyRose that keep the culture of true hip hop alive, using what you got, and being true to your story. Hawaii fans will be able to see DannnyRose perform at all of the tour’s scheduled shows on the Big Island, Maui, and Oahu.
