Aloha OTDHipHop fam! Apologies for the brief break from content the past 2 weeks. I went on a trip to Portland and Seattle with my family and celebrated my birthday! Anyways, we back again with another #TrackTuesday! Kicking off the new month, we got the homie Astreaux Guillotine and his new song “Turbulence” featuring Myalz Stunna. Check it out below:
First off let me just say that Astreaux Guillotine has been on his grind for a MINUTE, but has been releasing new music like crazy this year. His songs are available on all streaming outlets, and you can check out his latest OTDHipHop EP review here. Yall better stop sleeping! Ever since Astreaux sent me “Turbulence,” about a week ago, I’ve probably played this track a hundred times already. Haha. I honestly think this is my new favorite of his.
I love Astreaux’s nonchalant and even comedic attitude and confidence in his music. I’ve critiqued his deeper songs too, like “Lotus Interlude.” After listening/reviewing some his other projects, I’ve been curious as a listener to hear more about his reflections on spending time in prison and in the streets. “Turbulence” is EXACTLY that. I love its raw and gritty honesty, along with the beat and production. It has an anthem vibe to it that pulls me in as a listener and fan. I think new listeners can appreciate it as well. What really stuck out to me on this track are the short quotes/skits in between, that speak on the real street life in Hawaii. I’ve never really considered Astreaux’s music as specifically “gangster rap” but “Turbulence” is a great fit for that sub-genre, especially considering the artist’s background. Overall, I’m a fan of “Turbulence” and once again, I can’t wait to see Astreaux Guillotine and Mylaz Stunna perform this live soon!
