Yo OTDHipHop fam! Welcome back to another week of DOPE content here in our blog, and don’t forget to follow us on ALL of our social media. This week’s #TrackTuesday features an artist we’ve never had officially on OTDHipHop before, and that is hip hop artist/emcee, Pak!
I ran into him at a studio rehearsal this past Friday night and we chopped it up about his new project and fundraising campaign. Check out my review of his new song “Wanna,” from his newly released project,I Will Not Be Chain3d.
Pak has a really unique sound and demeanor as an emcee. Off rip, most might say he’s a “nerd” rapper but if you watch him closely at live shows and get to see his musical and visual content; he’s a lot more than that! “Wanna” is a good introduction to his persona and vibe. This is probably the most explicit from I Will Not Be Chain3d, but nonetheless I think it’s dope. The beat is produced by Syndrome and is a banger in itself, but I really like the sound effects on Pak’s flow and voice. It has a trap and EDM vibe that keeps me intrigued as a listener. Lyrically, Pak talks about the “come up” and all the things he desires; but there’s a maturity in his flow that mentions things like family, relationships, and mental and emotional stability. I’d love to hear this live!
Aloha OTDHipHop fam! As always, we’re back with consistent hip hop ON THE DAILY.
I got a special Hawaii spotlight for yall today - Hilo boys Jay Kuro and Killa B-rex.
You might remember them from last year’s Creative Hustle Tour segment.
Today I’ll be reviewing YouknowKuro’s newest track “Pesos.”
First off the beat is hella vibey, a trap and R&B sound with a cool piano melody.
Props on production! I really dig YouKnowKuro’s voice and flow on this; his raps sound more confident and smooth as we’ve followed his music development. The hook is also catchy, something I can vibe to on some solo shit or with friends. Lyrically, he illustrates his daily life with his own personal and Hawaiian finesse. I like that he mentions the homestead, and other Hawaii/Big Island lifestyle mentions like that. The song is pretty positive too, talking about staying focused, working hard, and forgetting the haters. Shouts out Killa B-rex and Young Nav for their features on this track too!
Make sure yall take a listen and support YouKnowKuro and the rest of his FTH crew!
Aloha OTDHipHop!! Much love to all the featured artists and fans, y'all keeping this platform going!
With that said, this week’s #TrackTuesday is “No V-Day” by Philly-based artist RAMADXN.
Check out our song review below:
“No V-Day” is one of RAMADXN’s latest drops. First off, I dig the the beat itself has a slower trap pace with a boosted base. Shouts out Canis Major on production! As far as lyrical content, I dig RAMADXN’s style. Essentially, “No V-Day” is a love song. I pictured it as a page out of the artist’s diary or journal, basically he’s venting his frustrations about a girl. He also has a nonchalant attitude in his voice that makes his story easy and fun to listen to even though the tone is a little dark.
