Good morning OTDHipHop fam! I’m so stoked that so many artists have been hitting me up to be featured on our platform. Today we have a special guest all the way from Chicago, hip hop artist/rapper Young Pat Mane! We chopped it up a few days ago via a video chat interview, and we discussed his background, experience, and upcoming projects as an artist. See more below:
OTDHipHop: When did you start rapping and taking it seriously as a career?
Young Pat Mane: I’ve always loved music and a big fan of classic artists like Rakim, Nas, and more. I’ve been rapping for a minute now but started taking it seriously about 3 years ago.
OTDHipHop: How did you get started in putting yourself out there as an artist in Chicago?
Young Pat Mane: Well basically while I was in college at Robert Morris University Illinois, I linked up with different creative collectives out here that do spoken word, rapping, and singing. I’m a member of Solace Minds, which is an extension of Solace Souls. It’s a cool network of talented artists and like-minded people who want to grow their art and brand.
OTDHipHop: How do you feel about Chance the Rapper’s representation of and involvement in Chicago?
Young Pat Mane: Shouts out to Chance and everything he does for the city of Chicago! Honestly we highly respect him in the community. He gives back so much and he doesn’t really have to. But I’m glad he supports the youth especially.
OTDHipHop: What is Chicago’s underground hip hop scene like?
Young Pat Mane: Honestly going back to Chance and his movement, there’s a lot of support for independent artists. Shows can get crazy over here, lol. Also, like I said, there are lots of networks of creatives that work together. I perform a lot locally, and there’s lots of opportunity.
