Aloha OTDHipHop fam!
As always, thank you for supporting the platform and all of the artists in our network. We are back to our regular weekly schedule, as shown below. We are also implementing an updated “review sheet” that we send as additional feedback directly to the artist, created by SmartRapper.Com. Feel free to check out their content as well! Today, we have a dope submission from Reggie Rare, an up and coming independent artist in the Los Angeles area. For this week’s #TrackTuesday, we’ve reviewed his new song and visual “Cuttin It Close.”
Off top, the music video is what really stands out. The concept is simple yet eye-catching, with the artist entering a video production studio and onto a green screen. The whole video is shot using the green screen, which allows for full-screen backdrops from hip hop, 90s, and sports cultures. Lots of different colors, scenes, and transitions make the whole song and visual a cool experience. I would say that the visual slightly distracts me from listening to the music and lyrics; but vibing to the written content, Reggie Rare definitely has bars and a lit vibe. I like that he talks about his come-up and different struggles and accomplishments that he’s made in his career. His aesthetic and outfit are fresh as well. The beat is also an interesting choice; it has a boom bap baseline with other trumpets and instruments that enhance the sound.
